Make a self supported tour through the scenic lake Pyhäjärvi all the way to Roine. The tour starts from the biggest inland city in Finland, Tampere and makes a circle back to Kangasala, the town near by. The tour is for people who are used to the outdoors and ready for some exercise. We will give you all the required equipment. Finland is known as the land of the thousand lakes, which each have countless little islands. Tampere is just between the big lakes Nasijärvi and Pyhäjärvi, which are both almost 100 km in length. Explore lake Pyhäjärvi on this unique 6 day self supported canoe-tour. You feel close to nature when the only thing you hear is the sound of the water and you have rest on one of the many uninhabited islands. In the evenings you can dock ashore to a camping place. Each camping place has a shelter called "laavu" and a toilet.

Specifications:

This tour is only suited for people with a good knowledge of the outdoors. This means camping in nature and navigating on lakes. You will have a general roadbook which gives you information to plan your tour. When planning your daily distances you should always take the weather into consideration. The canoe tour is going over 'flat water' but you will cross a few channels, which may mean some short portages. You have to be self supported on these tours but you can stop in villages and buy your food.

Example route:

An example route with equal day distances can be as follows.

1) Tampere - Luoto

The start is from Tampere. This day you will paddle on lake Pyhäjärvi past the towns of Pirkkala and Nokia. The day can be ended on the island of Luoto where you will find a camping place.

2) Luoto - Mäyriä

The second day will be on Pyhäjärvi. This day you will paddle in more rural scenery, the fuss of the city behind you. In the end of the day you will arrive at Mäyriä camping place.

3) Mäyriä - Lempäälä - Mattila

The third day you will leave Pyhäjärvi behind, first passing through Lempäälä channel and going on a narrow strech of Vanajavesi. In Lempäälä you can get more supplies and maybe even go and buy an ice cream. There is also a fine restaurant (Villa Hakkari) near the channel, which you can visit. The strech between Lempäälä and Valkeakoski does not have many camping places so your only option is Mattila.

4) Mattila - Valkeakoski

The fourth day you will paddle on Vanajavesi and the day should be ended at the town of Valkeakoski. There you will find a public camping place. At Valkeakoski you will also have to pass a channel.

5) Valkeakoski - Saarikylät

The last two days are shorter than the previous four. This means that you can cover some additional distance by exploring some of the many bays and channels around. The day can be ended at the scenic island village of Saarikylät, by an old school house, which now holds a restaurant. At Saarikylät you also have the option of having a real sauna experience, with a round sauna.

6) Saarikylät - Kangasala

The last day's program ends in Kangasala, where we can pick you up.

It is possible to alter the route depending on the weather conditions and your own plans. We can pick you up from various locations by the route where there is a road coming to shore. This will be done at your additional cost.
